The initial plastic injection design suffered from insufficient weight and a flimsy tactile feel. Our engineering assessment indicated that increasing wall thickness to add weight would lead to longer cycle times and a high risk of sink marks or structural deformation, while also incurring substantial tooling overhead and maintenance costs.
Manufacturing Process Solutions
We proposed a transition to precision-machined solid wood, leveraging the material’s natural density to achieve the ideal weight without additional counterweights. This pivot eliminated the need for mold investment and reduced comprehensive costs by approximately 35%, while elevating the product with a premium, organic texture that injection-molded plastic cannot replicate.
